Is 600 mg in one capsule or two total? Serving size is not clear

I have used this product for years and use one capsul for a lite meal and 2 for say a steak. Even with a big meal the 2 capsul does the trick. Realize your age and matabolism are a factor. I'm just short of 78 now and in excellent condition. I never have to wait 3 or 4 hours to digest any more. I count capsules not mg.

Does this help with meals without protein? I've only read that acid helps with protein digestion. What about carbs and fats?

Yes, it's true that the acid (HCl) is what breaks down proteins. Digestion of fats and carbs (breads, fruits, veggies, etc.) begins with the chewing process in the mouth; amylase (an enzyme) is released, although its activity is slight in comparison with that of amylase released when the chyme (digested food exiting the stomach) is passed on to the small intestine. It is here that bile emulsifies the fat to prepare it for being broken down by the enzyme lipase. Another function of the stomach acid is as a determiner of when to release the chyme into the small intestine. Once the HCl reaches a certain level (lower than when the digestion process started), the chyme is released. IF there isn't enough HCl to begin with, the chyme will be released before the acid has finished it's job in the stomach. I've found that by taking these pills (4 for full meals, 3 for snacks), I'm staying full longer. (I'm a thin person who has been skinny all my life despite my love of food!) I have only been on this routine for 4 months, but I'm hoping that I'm pulling more nutrients out of my food now that it's staying in my stomach longer and being properly digested!I do take 3 pills for snacks and make sure to include at least a little protein (nuts, hard boiled eggs, cheese, etc.). I want to make sure my body is able to get stronger.I read that you'll know if you are taking too many by the heartburn/burping. One meal I tried upping my dose to 5 pills; I had non-stop burping for the next 90 min. (Of course, I did this at a restaurant and had no antacid to counteract my mistake!) I've not had any similar issues taking 4 pills.
