UX8406CA is a nightmare.
The first month I bought it was alright because I didn't use it much, didn't have time to transfer my files from my old ASUS laptop UX482. I have been using my old laptop along with a Gigabyte 1080 eGPU for 4 years now and never had an issue. I have also used it with 2 Anyoyo SCSI usb-c and usb-a adaptors for my SK Hynix P41 platinum drive, and again no issues. After 1 month of barely using the UX8406CA I managed to finaly transfer my files from my old laptop, but it wasn't easy. I couldn't use the NVMe drive because copying files from one laptop to another just doesn't work. Every time I wanted to copy my files from the NVMe drive to my new laptop it, the copy procces would stall and and then stopped with errors on Event Viewer. I had to connect the laptops with a TB4 cable and transfer the files through the Thunderbolt - USB4 P2P networking. There is definitely something wrong with the USB ports because when I connect my eGPU to the laptop, the laptop freezes after a while. I could be playing, browsing the internet, do nothing, or the laptop just be hibernating, it would just freeze and the only way to restart it is press the power button for 15 sec. I'm fairly sure the problem is not the windows 11 because I have reseted and clean installed the windows several times and the problem is still there. It is either bad drivers and/or firmware/BIOS issue. I have the latest 310 bios version as of 22.11.2025. The intel external display driver throws hundreds of errors in Event viewer every times the screens go to sleep or turn back on. Now the TPM 2.0 doesn't work either (no TCG event log is available) when trying to enable the Bitlocker drive encryption (yes, I have updated to Windowes 11 Pro, still doesn't work). Now it is too late to send it back and ask for a refund because the 30 days windows is closed, but I'm really considering selling it and buying another laptop from another brand. But guess what: the price dropped from £2100 to £1800 and now on Black Friday is even £1500. So not only I have overpaid for this garbage laptop but selling it is gonna make loose even more money. All in all this laptop is perfect if you don't use eGPUs and NVMe drives connected to it. The 2 3k oled touch screens are wounderfull and the removal keyboard is excelent. Unfortunately this laptop is plagued with bad software/firmware. Don't buy it. I will come with updates later and more explanations. Don't buy.

Never worked (unfixable keyboard); poor customer service
Most disappointing product I have EVER experienced!! The keyboard never worked...It has been to the repair twice, returned not working again. It seems there is no solution to this problem in an almost £ 2K device....customer service as disappointing as the product itself.

Problem isnt so much the laptop, more the after sales support!
So I have the UX8406CA model of this laptop and have been pretty much impressed with the all round ability and flexibility of the machine. This isnt a machine for everyone and if you dont have a genuine reason for dual screen, I can think of a number of better suited laptops for the money and you'd be paying a premium for something you dont use. That said, if you have a genuine need like I do, its a game changer. It makes working remotely far more productive and easier. My initial concerns were would I use the dual screen enough, and given I have 3 screen setup on the desktop, was pretty certain the answer would be yes if it is seamless, and it pretty much is. Battery life for a twin screen setup I think is excellent, and to get the most out of this, I find myself doing all my emails and general admin in one screen mode before switching to the dual setup for project work, thereby maximising it. The laptop is a little heavier than a typical 14" but not what I'd class as heavy. For reference, Im coming from a Zenbook S 13" that I found very light, and a 17" Workstation that is basically not that portable because of the weight! This is almost as flexible to carry as the 13" to be fair and just a little heavier. The problem for me and the reason for 3* rating is the after sales support. This laptop has a couple of issues. Firstly, charging while in sleep mode sometimes doesn't happen. Its something to do with power configuration of the firmware/BIOS and I reported it to the support team who suggested checking the settings in Windows 11 (given its supplied from factory, and I'm more than tech adept, I knew it wasn't this). I know this is a firmware issue, but support rather than pass this over to the relevant team to research, suggested I waste more time repeating myself on a phone call, when really, highlighting and passing this over to the relevant team would be far easier both for the customer and for them as they had direct tech support and my input (I even said they could email because who wants to sit on a phone call for ages repeating something that's an issue with the laptop!!! Just today I got to the coffee shop to work and found the laptop with 35% battery even though it had been left on charge over night! A restart and it suddenly starts charging again! The second issue is I get some Bluetooth headphone interference when watching video. I'm using premium Sennheiser headphones that have no issues with any other devices, just this laptop. The problem is given the above point on support being basically lazy, I don't have the energy to reach out to them, when they will either no doubt blame the headset or ask me to call up!!! As such, if support was more professional, this laptop would be 5*, and they would have less issues going forward, but alas, support for Asus has always been its Achilles heel (I'm coming as someone who has used Asus products 25 years and love the reliability and quality, but find support lower tier)
