Detailed bolsters
My husband is an avid knife collector, so he was pretty excited to get his hands on this one. Right away, he was impressed that the blade is genuine Damascus steel and it arrived extremely sharp. He also said the abalone appears to be real, though it’s a very thin layer with a thicker acrylic laid over it. Still, it gives the handle a nice look. He did take one star off for the slightly rough deployment. It doesn’t fully extend on the first flip of the index finger, and he’s hoping a little lubricant will smooth that out for easier opening. He also mentioned that the knife is balanced, but feels a bit heavy, since the liners aren’t skeletonized like you see in many higher‑end models. That’s an extra labor step, of course, and you generally get what you pay for, so it probably won’t bother most people. The detailing on the bolsters is really nice! They look like stainless steel rather than a cheap stamped metal, which you can see in the photo. Overall, it’s a pretty impressive knife and one he is quite happy to add to his collection.

Nice Knife...If You Get A Good One
UPDATE: The seller contacted me after seeing my review. They were apologetic and wanted to send me a replacement knife so I accepted. They did not ask me to change my rating or amend my review. Five stars for customer service. My replacement knife is much better cosmetically. There are still a few air bubbles but they are small and only noticeable when looking up close. There is an issue though. The action of opening and closing the blade is not smooth. With my original knife, a flick of the finger flipper snaps the blade open into the locked position quickly and smoothly, every time. When I fold it back up, the blade firmly snaps back into the handle. When I flick the flipper on the new knife, it opens about 3/4 of the way and stops. I then have to put in the locked position with the flick of the wrist or with my other hand. When I fold it back, the blade doesn't snap into the handle. What I ended up doing is removing the abalone plates from the new knife and put them on the original. They are just held on by two screws. I now have a knife I'm happy with. It just took two knives to make one good one. I see there is one with a wood handle now. You may have less cosmetic issues with that one. I could still recommend getting this knife if it really interests you. Only because if you have an issue with it, the seller will take care of you if you contact them. ORIGINAL REVIEW: This knife either slipped through the quality assurance check or there is no QA, which is very likely. The handle on this knife looks absolutely awful. There are bubbles in the resin. One of them is huge and discolored. There's another spot where it looks like it was burnt or something. It's also covered in scratches. The blade looks like it's been acid etched. I knew this wasn't going to be real Damascus steel so I'm ok with that. There's a black residue (oxidation from acid etching) in some areas that rubs off really easily. You can really see it on the flipper tab in my photo. I just ended wiping all the black off after I took the photos. It came back after a while, just not as dark. I looks good. I like the patterns. The blade is very sharp. Opening and closing it is smooth. The knife itself feels strong and sturdy. The included leather case is nice. I believe it's real as it smells like genuine leather. I super disappointed with this. It could be a really nice looking knife but the handle ruins it. You would think a company producing an ornate knife who's main selling point is it's looks would do a better job.

Really nice knife.
I am impressed with this knife. For not much more than a generic one you can enjoy the much nicer looks of this one. It flips out easily and locks well. It is very sharp out of the box, moreso than several similar knives Ive tried. If you have any issues with locking use a flat screwdriver to gently pry the lock bar out so that it regains its springiness and securely locks the blade. The Damascus looks good. It is almost certainly fake but I couldnt find any obvious laser etch lines. The abelone shell is probably fake also but I could not find any flaws or differences from a real abelone shell that I have. All in all I recommend this and kids will definitely appreciate it.

Abalone handles have quality issues
first knife i received had visible bubbles in the clear plastic covering the abalone handles . i requested a replacement and received it a day later. However, the replacement knife had abalone handles that were very plain and dull looking with very little detail. Evidently, the manufacturing company is incapable of producing consistently nice looking handles. I don't have time to keep requesting replacements and returning the old ones. To get a respectable looking knife is really just the luck of the draw. Also, the blade is VERY thin.
