A real weapon, sturdy, sharp, a piece of history
I received my order two days ago. And I was impressed. I've read some comments here and will address the best I can. First, the blade is packaged with some clear grease. It's not a heavy amount. It's wrapped in two layers of plastic and is shipped in a fitted box. The handle is made of rose wood according to the original label on the shipping box. The blade on my knife is sharp and the point is quite sharp. I have no particular use for this knife other than to appreciate it. It's a reproduction of an edged weapon used by Scottish warriors and fighting men hundreds of years ago. It's a functional reproduction and keep it away from children. Not a toy. I don't recommend storage in the leather sheath. I've read that storing in a leather sheath can cause discoloration of the metal. Not sure about the chemistry involved. But I've personally experienced it with several knives. If you want to use this in the field, may want to have a stronger sheath made. The sheath you'll receive is made from thin leather. It's fine for me. I don't know how it will perform in the field.

Wicked sharp!
Beautifully designed, well constructed and wickedly sharp. Goes perfect with the Scottish Targe I made.

Good blade.
Satisfactory sharpness of the blade, and most certainly made of good steel. I looked at the edge, and it has cool, thin edges. It is most probably damascened, made with many billets of steel. Good. The size is quite good for a shortsword, excellent for close-quarters fighting. It had slight rusting along the edge, near the haft, and thus it has been demoted to 4 stars. This can be remedied, but the corrosion had spread and partially injured the haft. Thus, a slight markdown. It is overall quite high-quality. I would say that my father enjoys his dirk.

Beautiful craftsmanship!
Looks amazing! Went a little heavy on the oil, but nothing that can't be taken care of. The blade does have a couple nicks out of the edge from when they sharpened it, but all in all beautiful piece!

Nice dirk.
I bought this to go with my ceremonial kilt for solo bagpiping. Never intended it for self defense. However, it's a nice blade, pretty easy to sharpen, well done overall. If I get attacked by an angry violinist, I will revise my review.

A Useful Tool.
This is a very substantial knife. It’s about 15 1/2” long that tapers to a needle like point. The real draw of this knife is the beautiful twisted Damascus blade. Absolutely gorgeous. The folded steel patterns are really unique. The blade is not especially thick, but totally ample. It has a very sharp double edge blade. It lacks a guard that is correct for this style of knife. The wood handle is well contoured, fitting the hand nicely. I did smooth out the lower edge of the handle as it was a bit uncomfortable. Now, it’s about perfect. The decorations on the handle, though simple, were still quite attractive. The leather sheath is very well constructed of good materials. Overall it’s quite imposing and a fine knife. I really like it!

Not exactly as listed still worth the price
The Damascus pattern seems more like ladder pattern to me (not consistent with image). The description indicates removable belt loop ... sure, if you drill out the rivets. But, the blade is a full 12 inches, the handle is 5 inches. It feels pretty good in the hand, balance is nice. Will Not Cut, sharpening required unless it is only a prop. Still, worth every penny since I didn't have to heat it and beat it myself.

Hard to imagine a better knife for the price.
The knife has an interesting Damascus pattern. Just for looks in general it is an eye catching piece. Came reasonably sharp. It didn't look very sharp at first glance, but I took a swing at a pool noodle and was pleasantly surprised. The grip has a beautiful wood finish that feels good to hold. It's pretty light and not "too" large to be used as a self defense weapon. I imagine this would do some serious damage if you needed it to. For the price, this is a steal. I have other knives and swords that cost significantly more than this that dont come as sharp, nor feel as comfortable to use. I dont know how it would hold together with heavy use, but I don't plan to try to cut down any trees with it.
