SECOND UPDATE: Upon seeing my review and first update (below) and the fact that I received a used product, the company reached out to me and offered, and supplied, a 100% refund without requesting return of the item. Considering that the waterer is working as it should, and the company gave me a refund for accidently shipping a used product, I can say I am now 100% satisfied. The birdies work, just make sure you water all the way down to the bottom of the potted plant and then place the filled bird. It will dispense water as the water in the soil dries out. If you place it in a pot of soil that isn't totally moistened to the bottom, then the water will dispense very quickly to moisten all the soil. The birdies are cute in the potted plant. Impressed with customer service reaching out to me. UPDATE: By third time I refilled this waterer, the water is going down way slower than before. I've updated and added a star for that. Even though I watered the plant before using this self-waterer the first two times, maybe the very deepest layer of the soil wasn't moist enough so that's why the water went down so quickly. I've taken responsibility for that possibility and have upgraded my rating accordingly. However, I was still sent a returned item that wasn't repackaged properly at all, and even had a dirt mark on one of the 4 bird-waterers of the set. I paid for new and got either used or simply opened and returned item. That's deceptive business practice. If I pay for new and you give me a returned item at the very least make sure it's not dirty and that it's packaged properly. 1) These are plastic. I thought they were glass. I probably didn't read carefully. 2) I watered my plant, then filled the bird. In under 24 hours 3/4 of the water was gone. It seems to me that it's dumping a lot of water. This won't work for more than if you're gone a day or two. So far, not impressed but mostly super annoyed that they sent me a used/returned item when I paid for new.

These are cute ways to have water retention for plants.

Works well, the terracotta has a slow drip when hanging (I had to see it work before putting in plants). Make sure the orange rubber gasket is on straight before inserting into the bottom of the bird! I plan to refill through the bird's mouth so I don't wear out the gasket. Did not leak, large enough to last awhile but small enough to look cute in the pots, and well made. The bird has a large mouth for easy filling.

What a great idea for watering your plants. Smart idea for people who forget to water.

These birds are adorable and work great for small plants but for larger pots they tend to empty quickly. Even though they empty quickly for larger plants, I still find these birds super useful for watering my larger plants on my second floor porch since they won’t spill water onto my neighbors below me.

A plant I had for four years, which stayed the same, suddenly grew an extra two branches within two weeks of using this! (See the pics!). It also nourished my fussy African violet enough and it has flowered after years of clinging on for dear life! (See pic) So I bought myself another two sets for all my pots! My mum who is a total green thumb,used one and her plant doubled in size! I also bought some other mushroom ones but they don’t work as well as these! These make a great gift too

Wonderful product. Does exactly what I need to do. Now I don't have to remember to water my plants.

The ones that worked worked well. Test them out before use. I think three worked which was all we needed. Only for small pot plants.

These do not hold water for long (not even a few hours) so they aren't effective as 'self watering' rather just an alternative to watering the plant directly. I bought these for 'self watering' for plants like ferns to keep them moist and for times that I'm away for a few days, unfortunately they won't work for this purpose as they don't hold the water and they don't slowly release the water.
