Weak spindles result in broken chairs
The construction of these chairs, from outward appearances, seems well designed. However, there is a significant structural weak point at the spindle tops that hold the backing canvas. If the slightest pressure is placed backwards on the back of the chair (something you will obviously do), the spindle will snap off at the connection to the main strut, resulting in a broken chair. The first chair broke within 2 minutes of the first use, collapsing the back and almost resulting in a fall over backwards. The back top portions of the spindles appear to be constructed of separate wood pieces, being glued on to the top of the main strut. This allows for clean breakage if any pressure is applied perpendicular to the spindle (exactly in the direction someone seated would place any pressure). Either that or the wood is so weak that it breaks easily and cleanly across the weakest (thinnest) portion of the strut. Photos supplied by others show this fault. Ours were returned promptly for a refund.
